AGRO – PÔLE OLIVIER – MEKNÈS
The perspective management of the future of agriculture in Morocco with a chain approach became a priority in order to facilitate the integration of the agricultural economy in the national and international economy.
In this context, agronomic research and technological transfer should have special attention to the social-economic aspects of the integrated approach, in order to help the business operator to implement modern methods of cultivation and to enhance their production.
The institutes of research and development must be real locomotives of this strategy, through the organization of scientific and technical events (seminars, forum, workshop, etc …) and the development of tools to raise awareness, transfer of technology and know-how.
This is of great importance for the Moroccan olive oil sector, which is currently experiencing a phase of dynamism, thanks to the extension of the area cultivated with olive trees and thanks to the quality improvement of the “olive oil” product.
Today, the olive surface is more than 920.000 hectares and the production of olive oil reached an average value of 120,000 tons.
Created in 2005 under the direction of Dr. Noureddine Ouazzani – thanks to an agreement signed between the National school of Agriculture of Meknes and the agro-industrial sector of the Meknès-Tafilalet Region, with the support of the Council of the Region of Meknès-Tafilalet and public and private organizations, the Agro-pôle Olivier is an innovative structure for the development and promotion of the olive oil sector.
The Agro-pôle Olivier is a “Permanent Observatory” of innovation in the industry for the selection and transfer of technical and technological know-how whether national or international.
Thanks of the contribution of its partners, the Agro-pôle Olivier works as a group of public interest. Located in the Meknès-Tafilalet Region, the cradle of the olive tree in Morocco, the Agro-pôle Olivier provides to the olive oil sector a scientific, technical and relational patrimony. It has the ambition to be a main center for the exchange of the information and the sharing of technical and technological progress of the olive oil sector, that is increasingly focused on innovation, on the improvement of the product quality and on the sustainable development.
